Increase EC2 & other AWS service quotas

New AWS accounts have fairly tight default limits: on-demand vCPU count, Elastic IPs, instances per type, and more. As your business grows, these limits need to be raised through a Service Quota request to AWS Support.

Limits that most often need raising

  • Running On-Demand Standard (A, C, D, H, I, M, R, T, Z) instances — total vCPU limit.
  • Number of Elastic IP addresses per region.
  • GPU instance limits (G, P types) for machine learning or rendering workloads.
  • Other supporting service quotas: Lambda concurrent execution, RDS instances, and similar.

AWS region and the quota type you want raised
Current limit and target you need
An overview of your future usage/scaling plan

Tips for faster approval

Request incremental increases (e.g. 2-4x your current limit) rather than a huge single jump. AWS approves proportional requests that match your account's usage history much faster.
